Oil on canvas. This painting was originally conceptualised as
the poster for 'El torturador arrepentido' ('The Reformed Torturer'), by Carlos Salem;
a play that was brought to life by the Brétema Teatro in March 2011.

Having contemplated the main idea behind the production time and time again, this was the end result. My main objective was to capture and transmit the atmosphere that permeates throughout as much as possible - an atmosphere brought to life by fusing the fundamentally brilliant idea behind the play with the outstanding performances of both the cast and the Stage Director, María Suanzes. The end result was an all-round brilliant theatrical production. Tapping into the sheer energy breathed into this work helped me to give birth to this brainchild of mine... a Frankenstein-like monster inspired by Rembrandt’s powerful use of light and dark contrasts. Oh, Rembrandt... where are you now?!
